Ipswich - Your Olympics Base
16-Mar-11
Ipswich is less than an hour away by train from the action – a shorter travel time than many parts of London itself – with the added advantages of quality, reasonably priced accommodation and a chance to wind down from the bustle of the capital.
Check out the accommodation included here – from the well-known brands you would expect in a flourishing county town to the smaller, friendly guesthouses with their personal service. You can enjoy chic, four-star luxury on the town’s stunning waterfront, or the traditional warmth of a Jacobean manor house. For the more independent stay why not have a look at the choice of self-catering establishments?
While in town, you will discover Ipswich has the finest choice of restaurants in the region – including fine dining on a converted 19th Century gunship, in a brewery dating from the 1700s and in cosy timber framed 15th Century former merchants’ homes, plus, of course all the favourites you would expect in a university town.
And if taking a break from the sporting action you have a great opportunity enjoy our museums and galleries, the Ipswich arts festival and summer entertainment, a river cruise on the Orwell or a guided walk of the historic town centre or Waterfront.
