Framlingham Castle and Church
The beautiful market town of Framlingham is a short drive from Ipswich close to the heritage coast. The town's 12th century castle is a magnificent example of a late 12th century castle and is one of the most important in England being where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen. Built in the 12th century by the Bigod family (Earls of Norfolk) it is one of the finest examples of a curtain walled castle. The castle has thirteen towers linked by this curtain wall. The walk around the battlements offers superb views of the town and surrounding countryside
Framlingham church is large and stately, with a beautiful hammerbeam roof and one of the few pre-Civil War organ-cases in England that escaped destruction by Oliver Cromwell's Commissioners.
