Ipswich was England's first Anglo-Saxon town, founded in around 600 AD and the area has many sites where the Anglo-Saxon people have left an indelible mark. Most famous of them all is Sutton Hoo, the site of the world renowned Anglo-Saxon ship burial. This is now open to the public courtesy of the National Trust, with an award winning Visitor Centre.
